Hi all.  Hope you are having a fantastic term and thanks for being so supportive in our previously organized events. 

Hope all of you will have a great weekend at Alton Towers.  In order to keep different members with diverse interests to be active and get involved in our events, we would like to sincerely invite you to join our Singing Competition 2005.  Non-members are welcome to join too.  So, please encourage as many friends to join and do come and support your friends as well. 

The whole event would start with a preliminary heat at one of our meeting rooms at union north.  It will be conducted in a friendly audition way.  So, don¡¦t be shy to apply and give out a try.  Selected applicants will be progressed to our final heat at mid-November.  Prizes would be given out to winners at the competition.  Winners from the final heat are invited to take part in our variety show, which will be held at the spring term. 

The following are details for the preliminary heat and for the final evening.

PRELIMINARY HEAT

Date: 9^th November 2005 (Week 7 Weds)

Time: 6pm

Venue: Meeting Room at Union North

Entrance fee: Free

FINAL

Date: 14^th November 2005 (Week 8 Mon)

Time: 7:30pm

Venue: Chaplaincy

Entrance fee: 2 pounds (members) / 4 pounds (non-members)

                                (Snacks and drinks will be served in the evening)

RULES AND REGULATIONS

1. There are two entries that you may choose from:
   1. SOLO
   2. GROUP (there could be more than two persons in a group)
2. You may select BOTH entries.
3. You may only apply to a maximum of two entries. (One entry from SOLO and one entry from GROUP)
4. For SOLO entries: please have 3 songs prepared for your entry. 
5. For GROUP entries: please have 2 songs prepared for your entry.
6. All selected songs MUST NOT exceed a length of 5 MINS.
7. Selected songs could be of ANY LANGUAGE.
8. It is advisable that you have your own KTV prepared for the competition, or else, we would have to try and search it for you and this may delay or affect your choice of selection. 
9. You should have your entry songs selected by the time you send in your application  (You may still change it after the deadline if you do it at short notice as soon as the deadline has past).
10. For further details concerning the procedures for both the heat and final, we shall contact individual participants once we have received all your applications.

5. For GROUP entries: You may send out one e-mail altogether as a group including all personal details of each participant. 
6. Indicate the songs that you have chosen for your entry.  (You may still change your choice if notice is given out shortly after the deadline)

13. DEADLINE for application is 26^th October 2005, 12 NOON (Week 5, next Weds).  Late applicants will NOT be accepted. 

Please send your applications in as soon as possible.  As I already mentioned, don¡¦t be shy to apply, as it would be a fun and memorable experience.  The singing competition has been one of the most popular events the society organizes every year.  It will be an invaluable opportunity to test your ability in singing, to make yourself known to other students at university.  It is a perfect chance for challenge training and confident training to sing in front of a group of people.  And surely you will learn and gain a lot from this rare opportunity at university.  You may talk to anyone of us and surely some of us who have taken part last year would be able to share out some of their experiences that they had.   

Do not worry if you do not sing.   If there are other talents that you may want to show to and share with your fellow friends.  For example if you like to act, dance, or if you play at a band or an instrument and would like to perform, the VARIETY SHOW, which would be our biggest event organized for the year, may be something that you plan to take part. So, be prepared and start having ideas.  We will be giving our details about this very shortly.
